Free art exhibitions to take place in West Melbourne

Three different artists are exhibiting in West Melbourne starting from next week, in a communally driven collective art space.

The space was opened to the public five years ago, having moved from its original setting in King Street, Melbourne, in 2003.

KINGS Artist-Run aims to support the early careers of performers, artist and writers. As well as exhibitions of art, it also supports publishing initiatives and experimental performances.

In Gallery One, there is an exhibition entitled The Pied Piper of Hamelin (Vol. 2) by Lucca de Clario Davis and Celeste. This work references the tale of a town overrun with rats and the fantastical piper who lured the children away.

Gallery Two is hosting Pretending Make Believe / If You Look Close Enough You Can See My Thoughts by Gilda Jones. The artist does not dance, but is obsessed with dance and what makes it so reflective, introspective and performative.

Camille Chapman is showing a video installation in the third gallery, all about the depictions of otherness in mainstream media.

The organisers of contemporary artistic offerings often use local printing services to create text boards and labelling that can provide context to interested gallery attendees.

KINGS Artist-Run is showing three free exhibitions simultaneously, from 9 April until 3 May (Thursdays to Sundays only). The location is KINGS Artist-Run, 69 Capel Street, West Melbourne.
