Mark Niehus is a Port Adelaide-based artist who employs paint, film and poetry to explore the link between conscious and unconscious states. He has been exhibiting around the country since 2007 and has featured as a finalist in many film and art competitions.
Different Midnights refers to how solitude is experienced individually as people reflect and digest how they spent their day. There will be commonalities and points of connection with others, but a state of solitude can also be powerful, which Niehus aims to explore through verse, images and paintings.
Niehus has said of his creative thinking:
“I have an impulse to make art. I cultivate instinct and nurture the relationship between the conscious and subconscious mind and employ them to invent and transcend the mundane.”
Gallery-type events usually have exhibits that are annotated and described by labels that can be created using local printing services.
Mark Niehus: Different Midnights is showing from Saturday, 29 August until Friday, 18 September on selected days, from 11 am until 4 pm. The location is the West End Art Space, 112 Adderley Street, West Melbourne. This is a free event, with no need to book ahead. The opening reception takes place from 2 pm until 4 pm on the first day.
