Strictly Ballroom show prepares to open

Ballroom dancing enthusiasts from inner city suburbs such as West Melbourne, Victoria, have the highly successful stage show Strictly Ballroom The Musical within an easy 3km walk.

Based on the Australian film, the stage musical is heading to Her Majesty’s Theatre, Melbourne, for a limited season.

Strictly Ballroom The Musical has been transformed into a glitzy stage version by award-winning director Baz Luhrmann. His wife, Catherine Martin, is behind the dazzling costumes and sets.

It features some of the film’s classic songs, including Time after Time and Love is in the Air.

New songs by artists Sia and Eddie Perfect have also been included among the musical selections.

Phoebe Panaretos as Fran and Thomas Lacey as Scott Hastings head a cast of 43, which also features Mark Owen-Taylor, Heather Mitchell, Fernando Mira, Robert Grubb, Natalie Gamsu, Drew Forsythe and Bob Baines.

Presented by Global Creatures, the production has already received rave reviews for its Sydney performances.

Producer Carmen Pavlovic said the show combines kitsch Aussie fun with Broadway dazzle to present the story of a dancer who follows his heart despite have to break a few rules along the way.

Strictly Ballroom The Musical will feature at Her Majesty’s Theatre in Melbourne from January 20th to March 15th. The production has been the subject of flyer and poster printing campaigns throughout the city.
