Melbourne's best buildings to go on show this month

Architecture and design lovers have the chance to explore some of Melbourne’s finest buildings in detail later this month.

More than 100 buildings, some of which are not usually accessible to the public, will open their doors for tours and sightseeing as part of Open House Melbourne.

Among the buildings to open is one of the city’s newest developments at 171 Collins Street, where the building has been refurbished and has seen the addition of a new 19-storey glass tower. Other buildings open for the event include the Supreme Court of Victoria, a treehouse in South Yarra and the Channel 9 Studios in Docklands.

Printing services have been used to create a programme featuring details of all of the buildings. The programme can be purchased via the Open House Melbourne website or at the Open House information hub at the Town Hall. Children’s activity Books are also available, and many of the buildings are family friendly, with some running special children’s events during the weekend.

The event is free and to see most buildings visitors simply need to turn up during the opening times. However, the tours of 10 properties are being arranged by ballot due to restrictions on numbers. Parking is limited so visitors from suburbs such as West Melbourne are advised to use public transport such as the city’s trams.

This year’s Open House takes place on Saturday July 27th and Sunday July 28th. For more information and a full list of buildings open during the event, visit the Open House Melbourne website.
