Martin Pakula, Jobs, Innovation and Trade Minister, said $200,000 will be invested into Victoria’s Microsoft Traineeship Programme to help address a projected 100,000 shortfall of workers in the IT sector by 2024.
According to Mr Pakula, current numbers of graduates with appropriate degrees would not meet future demand. He added:
“Through this programme, we are investing in the next generation of IT professionals, ensuring they have the skills and real-world experience to forge ahead in their careers.”
The Microsoft Traineeship Programme is suitable for everyone from recent graduates and school leavers to people seeking career changes, those seeking to return to work and a host of others.
It provides participants with industry-recognised credentials while also giving them an opportunity to take part in hands-on, paid learning with well-known companies around Australia.
Programme partners in Victoria, many of which boast a familiar Logo Design, include Datacom, Advance Computing, Thomas Duryea Logicalis, Blue Connections, Modex, MEGT Australia, CompNow and Coles.
Training and Skills and Higher Education Minister Gayle Tierney said partnerships between training providers and employers such as this ensure students gain both on-the-job experience and the relevant training required to succeed.
The area of higher education, skills and training has benefitted greatly from record funding in recent years, according to Ms Tierney.
