Art After Dark Melbourne has brought together the city's leading museums, galleries and various cultural organisations that will focus on presenting a fascinating programme of paid and free experiences, including installations, public programmes, performing and visual arts, live music, drinks and food.
Creative Industries Minister Danny Pearson said the new event will give people an opportunity to experience Melbourne after dark and the fabulous night-time economy on offer, adding:
“Art After Dark Melbourne will bring tens of thousands of people into the CBD, bringing with them a significant boost to hotels, cafes, bars, restaurants and retail shops across the city.”
The event will be held in some of the city's major venues, including Fed Square, Arts Centre Melbourne, Victoria's State Library, The National Gallery, Moving Image Centre and Melbourne Museum.
Brochure printing campaigns have often been rolled out to advertise unique events such as this in the city.
The cultural experience is expected to attract many thousands of visitors and provide a major boost to the city's late night economy, while also showcasing Melbourne's creative sector and cultural institutions.
Melbourne's Art After Dark, which will be held on 13 and 14 May and see some venues open until 1am, is an initiative of Visit Victoria, which is delivering it in partnership with key city cultural facilities and creative organisations.
