Beloved indie band from UK to play in West Melbourne
Indie fans are in for a special evening when a much-loved band plays in West Melbourne in September as part of a tour that also includes North America and their native UK.
The Wombats have been around since 2003, with Matthew Murphy on lead vocals, guitar and keyboards, Dan Haggis on drums, keyboards and backing vocals and Tord Overland Knudsen on bass, keyboards and backing vocals. The boys met whilst studying at the Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts. The band has played at Glastonbury, Reading and Leeds festivals in England and supported the likes of Kaiser Chiefs and Babyshambles. The band has been nominated for many awards and won an NME Award for Best Dancefloor Filler for the single Let’s Dance to Joy Division.
The latest studio album, Oh! The Ocean, was released early in the year and was in part inspired by a family holiday to the beach that Murphy took with his family.
Promotional products such as tee shirts, caps and tote bags are often on sale at the venues hosting bands.
The Wombats Oh! The Tour are appearing at the Festival Hall, 300 Dudley Street, West Melbourne, VIC 3003 on Wednesday 24th September, with the show starting at 8pm. Support on the evening includes Bea and her Business and Ra, Ra Viper.
