The people of Victoria are gearing up for one of the biggest events of the sporting calendar, with the Melbourne Cup now just a few weeks away.
The race offers the biggest prize in Australian horse racing and attracts some of the world’s best trainers and jockeys. Around 70 horses have been put forward for the event, which has a purse of around $6million.
More than 100,000 people attend the race each year, which is held at Flemington racecourse, and people from West Melbourne still have time to get tickets for the event on Tuesday November 5th. There are 10 races taking place, including the Cup itself at 3:00pm, and there will also be plenty of other entertainment on offer throughout the day.
Visitors will get the chance to enjoy a fashion parade and competition and can even get tips on their own outfits from roving experts. There will also be the opportunity to spruce up with a free shoe shine before trying out the whisky bar.
Tickets can be bought for general admission, but people wanting to make the day special might like to think about booking a package which includes food and other extras. Dining options range from casual food to seated three-course meals and cocktails.
