45th Year for Print Council of Australia

The Print Council of Australia is a national organization that is dedicated to Australian printmaking. The head office is located in North Melbourne and offers support and advocacy for Australian contemporary artists, especially those who are just emerging. Firms who provide poster printing in nearby West Melbourne are always interested in seeing new ideas in printmaking.

The Print Council of Australia, currently in its 45th year, offers many services for its members and for the general public. The Print Subscription Program makes prints available to the public via mail order; the PCA Print Archive contains over 300 commissioned prints beginning in 1966 which are available for sale; the PCA publishes Imprint Magazine which is published quarterly and is the only printmaking magazine in Australia , it is free to members; the Print Commission Program’s judges choose 10 artists ever year and make those prints available for purchase; opportunities for artists to take part in their various programs; and makes several awards, scholarships and residences available to printmakers.

Annual membership fees for the PCA are $45 for students and seniors and $65 for individuals within Australia. Each commissioned Print is available for purchase to members for $180 and to non-members for $220.

Printmaking is not always treated as a serious art. May people assume that it takes less talent to produce a Print than to create a painting and that somehow the art is less original. Having said this, many would admit that some of the world’s greatest artists were printmakers.
