Thornbury to host celebration for supportive feminist organisation
Supporters of women in the Thornbury area can attend a special anniversary with renowned speakers in attendance.
The Victorian Women’s Trust is celebrating its fourth decade this year. The Trust was created to help engender change and support women and girls by creating social projects and campaigns, events and mentorship strategies. The Trust also hands out grants to support grassroot projects, and remains one of the oldest women’s funds in the entire world.
At the celebratory event, those attending will hear from Board members, including the Chair, Alana Johnson AM, and the new Executive Director, Dr Kirsten Abernethy. Musician Georgia Fields will be singing, and author Sita Sargeant will be talking about her work, which has a focus on using tourism to promote gender equality.
All are welcome at the event, whether as first timers or regular visitors. There will be an opportunity to meet and greet Dr Abernethy and the outgoing Executive Director, Mary Crooks, AO. As fitting a birthday celebration, there will also be cake for all.
The organisers of events within a community like this often use local printing services in order to promote those events.
The 40th Anniversary of the Victorian Women’s Trust is taking place on 12 October at 3pm. The venue is the Thornbury Bowls Club, 27 Ballantyne Street, Thornbury. Tickets cost $30.
