Event to raise money for animal charity near Thornbury

Animal lovers in the Thornbury area can soon attend a session with their dog that will help raise funds for Forever Friends Animal Rescue.

The charity was started in 2011 by Saskia Adams and is staffed entirely by volunteers. It aims to rehabilitate and rescue all neglected animals, including cats, dogs and farm animals. The animals are cared for by the volunteers at home, or at a sanctuary in the Yarra Valley if a foster home is not immediately suitable. In 2019, Adams was nominated for the Pride of Australia award.

The Good Dogs of Darebin event will have a “Christmas in July” theme and will be taking place at Welcome to Thornbury, an iconic venue that was once used for car-manufacturing but is now an arcade, bar, beer garden and useful rentable space.

At Good Dogs of Darebin, there will be stalls with dog-themed products, Christmas dog portrait sessions, food and drink for sale and a competition to judge the best-dressed dog. Owners and dogs are encouraged to wear ugly Christmas sweaters.

Market-style events that host stalls might use local printing services to produce price lists and Menus.

Good Dogs of Darebin: Christmas in July will be happening at Welcome to Thornbury, 520 High Street, on Sunday 5 July, from midday until 5 pm. It is a fundraising event and is free to attend.
