Post-punk bands Australian tour visits Thornbury

Those living in and around the Thornbury area will soon get the chance to spend an evening listening to a post-punk Canadian band.

The band members of Cola are Ben Stidworthy (bass), Tim Darcy (guitar and vocals) and Evan Cartwright (drums). Hailing from Montreal, the band has been in existence since 2021, when the first single, Blank Curtain, was released.

The group’s debut album, Deep in View, followed in the middle of 2022. The second album, The Gloss, was released just two years later. Cola has only recently released its third, semi-self-titled record. The full title of the album is Cost of Living Adjustment, but can be acronymised to spell the band’s name, Cola. The title highlights the way life can be seen as a lottery for many. The band has describes the new album a deepening on the themes and sounds they have explored across their career so far.

A Pitchfork review describes this latest offering by saying:
“This musical complexity serves as a counterpoint to the hellish stasis of the modern world they describe.”

Fans of Cola can expect to hear tracks from the new album played at Thornbury’s live show. Promotional Products such as T-Shirts, hoodies, baseball caps and CDs are popular items that are often sold at a venue where a band is playing.

Cola is appearing in The Ballroom, Thornbury Theatre, on Thursday, June 18, from 7pm. General admission tickets are priced at $50.
