Free local music on offer in Thornbury

Those living in Thornbury who are fond of indie folk music can attend a free event at the beginning of September.

Faces in the Street is an indie folk trio from Melbourne. The founding members are John Fraser (vocals, guitar) and Rowan Cole (vocals, guitar, mandolin and mandola). The duo was joined by John Zak (guitar, bass, synthesiser) in late 2024.

Their signature sound blends vocal harmonies and storytelling with both electric and acoustic instruments, incorporating country blues, folk and rock influences.

The playlist on the night is likely to include new material and a selection of cover songs, with the band REM being a particular favourite with the trio and fan base.

Inspiration for the name of the band came from a Henry Lawson poem that portrays the marginalised in the city. This perspective is something that is often addressed in the melancholic songs and soundscapes that the trio are drawn to creating.

A reviewer from last year enthused:
“An excellent show in front of an appreciative audience!”
