First Nations films to be shown free in Thornbury

Film fans in Thornbury can enjoy a free showing of innovative First Nations movie offerings at the beginning of September, on the first day of the Darebin FUSE Festival.

FUSE Darebin is the annual, multi-arts festival, using spaces such as streets, parks and theatres to engineer a program that is unique, accessible and forward-thinking, with an aim of strengthening community bonds.

As part of the curated First Nations film festival, three local and international films are being shown on the 2nd and 10th September. These include Bride and Prejudice, Crouching Tiger and Hidden Dragon and Paper Planes.

On the evening of 2nd September, filmmaker Ngaraba and Darebin resident Issac Winzer will be presenting short films, to include Winhanganha and Lady Lash. After the screenings, there will be a question and answer session, where in attendance will also be singer-songwriter Ngiyampaa man Pirritu and screenwriter Rochelle Humphrey.

At the start of the evening, there will be half an hour for guests to enjoy mingling, before there is a formal welcome from a Wurundjeri Elder.

Entertaining and informative events alike may be well supplemented by printed material produced by local Stationery printers.

FUSE Films – First Nations film evening is taking place on Tuesday 2nd September at the Thornbury Picture House, from 6pm until 9.10pm. Tickets are free, although booking is required.
