City of Stonnington residents will be able to continue accessing council and library services, despite the closure of Prahran Town Hall in preparation for a major $29.1 million refurbishment.
The council recently announced that the Stonnington Visitor and Services Hub (SSVH) and the Prahran Library will be relocated temporarily to two sites within Prahran Square. The library will be moved to a location at the northern end, near Woolworths, while the SSVH will operate from the southern end on Chatham Street.
Business owners and residents will be able to register requests for customer service, complete applications and transactions and learn more about the city's services at the one-stop Visitor and Services Hub. According to a council spokesperson, minimal disruption is expected while the buildings are being prepared for occupancy, as most of the activities will revolve around internal fitouts.
A planned opening of the SSVH in September, followed by the Stonnington Library in October, has been delayed due to COVID-19 related restrictions. However, the council have said the services will be available in the near future as they have proven to be extremely popular with members of the community.
Meanwhile, the move will enable work to begin on major improvement works at Prahran Town Hall, where the vision is to create an iconic community and cultural facility that attracts visitors and locals alike.
