Take a tour of a Heritage House this October

Prahran residents can join in on a tour of Robin Boyd’s Walsh Street, a heritage house, this October.

Walsh Street is the name of the house that was designed by Robin Boyd in 1957 for his family. It is also his most popular piece of work. The architecture of the house is described as modernist Australian and is recognised on both national and global levels for being the epitome of this style of architecture design. Robin Boyd Foundation’s headquarters is now on Walsh Street.

Robin Boyd is not only the nation’s top architect of influence, but also a well-known author and critic. He was also an educator in the 1950s and 1960s and helped to lead the movement of Modern Architecture.

The Robin Boyd Foundation’s aim is to extend Robin Boyd’s legacy by providing a platform to find out more about and augment the strength of architectural design in reflecting and shaping the identity of Australia. It does this by running initiatives and programs of an educational nature that inspire and guide debate on design and architecture in Australia.

During the Heritage House Tour, attendees will learn about Robin Boyd, his influence, and be given information on the Walsh Street house design in a presentation lasting for 45 minutes. After this, guests are given the freedom to check out the house during the 90-minute session. Printing services are often used for tours to provide attendees with printed tickets, maps, and other informational material.

The tour will be held on 14th and 23rd October from 11am to 12.30pm, with the Walsh Street location being 290 Walsh Street in South Yarra.
