It follows on from recent changes to tenancy laws to allow renters to own domestic pets.
With over a third of Victorians owning a dog and a growing number of renters, the government has said there is now a need for places for them to be safely exercised and socialised. Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews told a media gathering at the announcement of funding in Brookville Gardens that:
“More dog parks mean more open spaces for families and their pets to enjoy, close to home.”
Events held at dog parks such as agility trials are often advertised with help from flyer printing services. The government has said it will work to deliver up to 15 new dog parks by identifying underutilised public spaces across the city in council areas including Stonnington, Wyndham, Maroondah, Darebin, Kingston, Brimbank, Casey and Moonee Valley.
The state government has previously said it recognises the value to mental health and social inclusion that owning a pet can bring. It’s other notable policy regarding domestic pets was the banning of puppy farms in 2016 and limiting of breeding facilities to owning a maximum of 10 dogs.
