Plans for new high school in Prahran unveiled

A modern fitout and sleek design have been revealed in the recently released plans for a new high school set to be established in Prahran, Victoria.

The development will represent one of the first vertical schools to be built in Melbourne.

Images shared on social media by the Victorian School Building Authority reveal an artist’s impression of a number of features, including a centralised atrium and teaching spaces in the four-storey building, along with gym equipment and basketball hoops.

Details of the plans have been listed on the authority’s website, where it states the new school will cater for 650 students with Year 7 enrolments due to begin following its scheduled opening in 2019.

Future school Letterheads will feature the High Street address, which was formerly home to the Swinburne Prahran campus.

The high school will also be adjacent the existing education precinct, where both the National Institute of Circus Arts and Melbourne Polytechnic can be found.

The school’s design has been described as innovative and modern by Prahran MP Sam Hibbins.

He said the inclusion of recreational space was particularly impressive, as is its location and design.

Hibbins said there had long been a need for another high school in Prahran. In total, $25m has been contributed by the State Government for the project, which one parent described as an “exciting facility” both for its vision and architecture.
