The Stonnington Jazz 2016 programme is in the hands of a seasoned performer for the first time in the history of the event.
Prahran, Victoria residents will be among thousands given an opportunity to attend the celebration of jazz Stonnington style, according to organisers.
Songwriter, broadcaster and vocalist Chelsea Wilson has been appointed to the helm of the massive jazz festival, which traditionally presents some of the country’s finest talents in an 11-day performance schedule that Catalogues top jazz classics and favourites.
Wilson, who performed at last year’s opening night, welcomed her new role as Artistic Director and said it was an honour to be invited to participate in such an important way.
She said she hoped her love for the music, diverse sounds, different styles and exploring new material would come to the fore.
Wilson has many innovative ideas, some of which include collaborations with artists from various aspects of the industry that are keen to develop premier innovative works and new projects.
She said the 2016 programme, which will be advertised on Brochures and featured on poster printing throughout the event to be held from May 12 to 22, will incorporate new venues and new acts, as well as including a range of jazz genres.
Heritage, improvised and original jazz music will be included on the bill. The full festival programme is expected to be finalised in February.
