Opera fans to enjoy a night in Prahran

An event that offers the chance to listen to opera music under the stars is sure to have an intimate and special feel, and a free event in Victoria Gardens may attract residents of Prahran who enjoy classical music.

With a history of operatic offerings in the open air, Victoria Gardens is this year hosting The Classics: A Midsummer Night’s Opera, which aims to weave together operatic renditions of some of the most memorable Shakespeare sonnets and plays.

Ali McGregor returns as artistic director to lead the charge with the theme of A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Australia singers trained in the operatic arts will be performing on the night, accompanied by a twelve-piece Chamber Orchestra, which will be conducted by Trevor Jones.

The audience will be treated to Gounod’s Romeo et Juliette, Rossini and Verdi’s Otello and Britten’s Midsummer Night’s Dream, as well as songs by composers such as Cole Porter and Roger Quilter. This night of music under the stars is likely to appeal to Shakespeare and music fans alike.

Local flyer printing can be a means of highlighting cultural events like this within the community.

The Classics: A Midsummer Night’s Opera will be taking place on Saturday, 10 February, from 7.30pm until 9.30pm. The venue is set to be Victoria Gardens, 3611 High Street, Prahran.
