Residents of Prahran and those across the City of Stonnington will not have to travel far to enjoy the 2020 Christmas Carols event, which is being organised by Stonnington Council.
Instead of families travelling to the event, the much-loved free annual concert will be streamed live into viewers’ homes, and it will feature a kaleidoscope of top talent.
The country's leading lady and all-round performer Rhonda Burchmore will host the event, which will also feature the music of the Jack Earle Big Band as the backing act. Other performances will feature Neighbours star and winner of Masked Singer 2020 Bonnie Anderson, Alinta Chidzey from the stage musical Chicago and famed actor from TV's Wentworth series Zahra Newman.
All of the action will be streamed live from Prahran's Chapel Off Chapel. In the past, brochure printing campaigns have featured many top Australian artists who have performed at the venue.
Stonnington City CEO Jacqui Weatherill said that if COVID-19 restrictions allow, people will also be able to view the broadcast in Central Park, Prahran Square and Malvern East, where it will be beamed onto large outdoor screens. This will provide an opportunity to enjoy the Christmas atmosphere and spirit from a key position beneath the stars.
Weatherill said that the carols will give the local community a chance to celebrate together, alongside looking ahead to a brand new year with renewed zest and optimism. Stonnington Carols will be screened live from 7.30pm on December 13.
