Melbourne students will soon be able to attend one of Victoria’s first vertical schools, with the opening of the Prahran High School this year.
The school has a dedicated Facebook page featuring its own Logo Design, consisting of a geometric P in negative space. Teacher and pupils alike are expressing their enthusiasm for the term ahead in the new building.
The four-storey school, designed by architects Gray Puksand, was built to house 650 students from the local area through years 7-12.
The building’s ground floor will accommodate the library, drama and music facilities. Art, technology and science areas will be organised over the next three floors. A gymnasium and an outdoor recreation zone complete with running track will be located on the third level.
The original design will also feature an open atrium and a play area with trees and a garden on the rooftop. Several stairs and bleachers connect the four levels and act as spaces for students to gather and learn. Each floor will have an outdoor terrace.

The new school will be the latest addition to the present educational precinct, which encompasses both Melbourne Polytechnic and the National Institute of Circus Arts.
