Chapel Off Chapel is bringing innovative theatre to Prahran by premiering the verbatim theatre piece ‘We Were There’ as part of the 2018 Midsummer Festival.
Run from one of Victoria’s oldest churches and described by Geoffrey Rush as “an industrious hotbed [for the arts],” Chapel Off Chapel is a popular Melbourne venue for live entertainment. Regularly producing thought-provoking theatre alongside musicals and intimate concerts by artists such as the Foo Fighters, the venue offers something for everybody. Their schedule each year is jam-packed, requiring high usage of printing services such as poster printing and flyer printing.
New to the world of professional theatre, Titled Productions – founded by VCA graduates Dirk Hoult and Gavin Roach – presents a previously unseen perspective on the AIDS crisis: the lives and experiences of the women who were the carers, wives, medical professionals, friends and mothers.
Verbatim theatre is a style that is almost documentary theatre – it reflects the real words and real experiences of subjects, gleaned from hours of research and interviews. It can exclusively represent the words spoken by interview participants, or can interweave ‘created’ theatrical scenes.
Hoult and Roach have spent time extensively interviewing 15 Australian women who fought alongside the many victims of the crisis in the ‘80s and ‘90s, and present their stories with heart and humour.
