A new development in sporting infrastructure in the City of Stonnington will provide new contemporary facilities for the municipality, serving suburbs stretching from Prahran in the west to Chadstone in the east.
The project, located in Malvern East, will be the city’s largest ever investment in recreational facilities, with the redevelopment of Percy Treyvaud Park providing the ground for the centre. The new facility will have four mixed-use courts suitable for netball and basketball. The centre will also offer seven new tennis courts and a synthetic bowling green after a two-year construction period.
Playing fields and facilities will also be improved for Chadstone Lacrosse Club, East Malvern Tooronga Cricket Club and Chadstone Bowls Club, which currently use the existing facilities. Sporting and community groups often find flyer printing helpful in keeping members updated during redevelopments.
The project costs over $40m and has received an injection of $4m from the federal government. The current playing fields will remain in place. However, the development will also include an additional 1,000 square metres of open space for public use and over 200 car parking spaces. A breaking ground ceremony was conducted on 31st January, with government and council officials in attendance, plus representatives from some sporting bodies.
The works will be completed by late 2023, but the oval and a large part of the park will remain open during construction.
