A live circus experience featuring National Institute of Circus Arts (NICA) graduates will feature as part of a short season of performances in Prahran, Victoria.
Prahran’s National Circus Centre, custom built for such performances, will host the show to be put together by internationally acclaimed director Firenza Guidi, of Wales.
Guidi said audiences would be treated to a unique encounter based on a book of dreams theme, with all the action happening before their eyes.
Entitled Dreams from the Second Floor, the performance has been described as raw, raucous and infectious.
Circus skills will be performed by 21 young artists on apparatus such as the tightwire, dance trapeze, hula hoops, German wheel, rope, contortion, aerial straps and aerial rings.
The unique performance style was developed by Guidi, who is an award-winning writer, film director and circus, theatre and visual artist. She has successfully performed with the NoFit State Circus company in productions such as Tabu, Immortal and Bianco.
Prahran-based NICA is the only educational facility of its type in Australia, as it offers the Bachelor of Circus Arts. Many graduates have gone on to represent their country overseas.
Students come from across the globe to study at NICA. Flyer printing and word of mouth have assisted in attracting good crowds to their performances. Dreams from the Second Floor will be on stage at the NICA National Circus Centre until December 6th.
