Following on from its workshops on stained glass and leadlighting, Glaas Inc., will soon hold another workshop in Prahran – this time about engraving on glass.
Glass engraving, or scribing, is a specialist art, highly prized in the restoration of historic buildings, as well as in new architecture. Glass engraving is also a unique way for a business to display its Logo Design, or to offer Promotional Products with a difference.
The workshop will be taught by glass artist Kirsten Laken, an expert in her field with over 30 years of experience, who runs the Spirit of Glass studio in the Dandenong Ranges.
This introductory workshop will teach beginners how to transfer their design from printed page onto glass. They will learn to use a glass scribe to etch their pattern onto three or four sheets of glass, which will then be placed in slots within a frame, building up the complete design. Attendees will be able to keep their finished glass product, the wooden frame and the scribing tool.
The workshop will be held on Saturday, September 23, from 9:00 am until 12:00 noon, in Building B on the Prahran campus of the Melbourne Polytechnic, at 144 High Street, Prahran. The cost of the workshop, which includes all materials, will be $137.52 for adults, and $93.45 for students. Tickets can be purchased through Eventbrite.
