Council has prepared a draft plan that outlines a list of improvements, such as more greenery, new furniture outdoors, wider footpaths and attractive paving, as well as a boost to the areas that host outdoor dining. In addition, traffic accessing and leaving the car park will benefit safety-wise from a change in direction.
In a recent statement, a council representative said that the project has also received Victorian Government funding to help the council achieve its goals. These goals include revitalising the shopping strip by creating a vibrant, people-friendly and attractive place where members of the can community shop, dine and meet. He added:
"Before progressing this project we invite you to view the plans and have your say."
The representative also said all existing trees will be retained and new plantings will be added. There will also be new bins, bike racks, seating and wider footpaths to allow for improved pedestrian access and more spacious outdoor dining areas.
A graphic design of the project is available for downloading on the council website, and those interested in commenting can also complete a brief survey prior to the December 22 deadline. The design is expected to be finalised and a construction contractor appointed by early 2021, with work to begin about June 2021.
