Cultural celebration to take place in Prahran
Those living in and around Prahran who have interest in all things Germanic may wish to attend Germanfest at the beginning of July.
Germanfest is presented by Club Tivoli and is an event that celebrates the cultures of Germany, Austria and Switzerland. Those attending can expect native beers, schnaps, and regional food. As well as refreshments, there will be music and dancing with games and prizes to be won.
Club Tivoli in Prahran has over 900 members and is devoted to the preservation of German culture. This is achieved by singing, dancing and the practise of the German language, as well as events such as Germanfest.
Club Tivoli was originally known as the Melbourne Gymnastic Club, and was one of the first clubs in the area. In 1989 the current property in Dandenong became home and the club still embodies the original ideals which are illustrated by the four F’s in the crest; in English these translate as Bright, Upright, Cheerful and Freedom of Living.
Community is key and many regard the club as a home from home. Events such as Germanfest only serve to strengthen bonds, providing a social outlet with traditional food and drink. It is likely that poster printing will alert members to upcoming celebratory occasions.
