The 18 graduating artists have prepared for the past three years, undergoing study and training in Australia’s only Bachelor of Circus Arts degree course, at Swinburne University. The Showcase, continuing at NICA’s National Circus Centre in Prahran until the beginning of December, presents contemporary circus, from comedy acrobatics to seemingly impossible tightwire routines.
The showcase is the final performance, as students, for the 18 graduates. NICA Director & CEO Pamela Creed says:
“Circus Showcase provides the perfect platform from which these students leap into professional circus careers. Their fresh interpretation of the circus art form is dazzling.”
Past graduates of NICA continue to pursue local and international careers with some of the worlds leading circus troupes. Every performer brings an individual skill-set, and this year’s show is no exception.
Fans will be enthralled by the airborne prat-falls of a high-flying bag lady, or the acrobatic ballet sequence of breath-taking beauty and agility. Then there is the ‘object manipulator’, combining shadow puppetry, mime and juggling. To say there is something for everyone is an understatement.
This talented bunch of graduates is sure to impress, being the result of imagination, artistry, and sheer hard work, culminating in a polished and impressive performance, and retaining Australia’s status as a goldmine of circus talent.
