The deadline was extended by the State Government, who imposed the new regulations to bring Victoria up to date with rules in other Australian states, such as Queensland, New South Wales and Western Australia, where mandatory spa and pool inspections and regulations already apply.
As a result of the newly imposed regulations, all spas and pools need to be registered and safety barriers require inspections regularly every four years.
Mayor of Stonnington, Steve Stefanopoulos, advised residents to use the time to ensure spas and pools adequately met the new regulations, adding:
"Council takes pool and spa safety in our community very seriously and I remind all pool and spa owners to be up-to-date with current State Government requirements by registering their pools and spas."
Pool safety has been the focus of a number of brochure printing campaigns over the years.
The Mayor said that an estimated 80 per cent of spa and pool owners had already undertaken the application process, which was a pleasing statistic, adding that it was a simple process and that all relevant details were available via the council's website.
The deadline for registration applications is November 1, 2020.
