Circus fans in Prahran can enjoy watching the next generation of NICA final-year performers as they showcase their work at NICA in June.
The National Institute of Circus Arts (NICA) end of year show is entitled FAMOUS this year. NICA is the Centre of Excellence for circus skills training in Australia. A member of Arts8, it is one of the eight renowned performance and screen training organisations. Returning Alumni staff have previously had successful careers with the likes of Cirque du Soleil, the Great Moscow Circus and Legs on the Wall.
FAMOUS, directed by Carita Farrer Spencer, embraces the theme of the treadmill of modern celebrity. The show is innovative, brilliant and spectacularly bonkers. The audience will be treated to acrobatics and trapeze, amongst other disciplines.
Costumes are designed by Savanna Wegman with the help of Melbourne Polytechnic costume design students. The set is built by NICA alumni and designed by Tim Rutty. Accompanying music is by Darius Kedros and the spectacular lighting is informed and delivered by live performance lighting designer, Spencer Herd.
Striking graphics used during poster printing are likely to encourage interested members of the community to buy tickets for the spectacle.
The National Institute of Circus Arts – Famous is showing at NICA National Circus Centre, 39-59 Green Street, Prahran from Friday 14th June until Saturday 22nd June, from 2pm until 10pm. Tickets cost from $15.
