Unique theatre experience to arrive in Essendon

A civic centre is Essendon has announced it will host an unusual theatre production that features restaurant style seating later this year.

Theatre enthusiasts in Essendon are in for a rare treat, as a play written by Louis Nowra titled “Cosi” will be performed in the suburb in September. Unlike other productions that opt for the audience facing forward in a “theatre style”, ticket holders will be seated restaurant style at tables and can bring along snacks and beverages to enjoy with the show.

Local community venues hosting events like plays and shows sometimes call upon those experienced in graphic design, who understand how to create eye-catching adverts.

Cosi tells the story of Lewis, a young director who gets the chance to embark on his first production. However, he is saddled with a crazy cast that want to perform an opera despite being unable to sing and having no orchestra. They include Mozart fanboy Roy, attractive addict, Julie, the ardent Cherry, emotionally paralysed lawyer Henry, obsessive Ruth and pyromaniac Doug.

Cosi will now run at the Bradshaw Street Community Hall from Thursday, September 11 to Saturday, September 20. The venue is located at 9 Bradshaw Street, just off Buckley Street in Essendon.

The production is performed by the Essendon Theatre Company and directed by Rosalin Shafik-Eid. Tickets cost from $20.
