Essendon to provide venue for well-loved play

Drama enthusiasts who live in or near Essendon can choose to visit a local venue and see a show based on a popular film and story.

The Essendon Theatre Company (ETC) is bringing to life The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, a cult Tim Burton film from 1999 that starred Johnny Depp as the humble schoolteacher Ichabod Crane. The film was based on an original short story by Washington Irving, written in 1820.

The setting is the village of Sleepy Hollow and involves the legend of a ghostly headless man, Hessian, on horseback. The spectre will decide the fate of the Crane as he tries to win the hand of Katrina Van Tassel against his rival in love, Brom Bones.

Run by enthusiastic theatre-goers and volunteers, the ETC is located in Melbourne and produces a range of productions every year, including comedies, dramas and pantomimes. The Bradshaw Street Community Hall is its home.

Theatre companies may often use local printing services to produce programmes that are sold as souvenirs for audience members.

The Legend of Sleepy Hollow is being performed at 7.30 pm until 10.30 pm from 21 May until 30 May at Bradshaw Street Community Hall, Essendon. Tickets cost $25, with concessions available. Seating is available in the form of tables for up to eight people, with attendees encouraged to bring their own snacks and drinks.
