Residents in the Essendon area can soon be witness to an unusual percussion event that is taking place in June.
In partnership with Moonee Valley City Council, Speak Percussion will be performing at an Essendon squash court, which makes use of the empty echoing space to reimagine a sport for strings and percussion. The artists are Rohan Dasika on bass, Maria Moles on drums, Marshall McGuire on the harp and Kaylie Melville playing the vibraphone and performing as the lead artist.
Since its inception in 2000, Speak Percussion aims to bring percussion firmly into the 21st century by adopting unusual and ambitious projects. This includes mass events as well as solo endeavours, sound installations, album releases and innovative experimental soundscapes.
To date, Speak Percussion has been responsible for over 220 novel works and commissions, contributing greatly to the global repertoire of percussive pieces of renown.
Events like this that may be of interest within a community are often advertised by the medium of poster printing.
Squashed by Speak Percussion, a contemporary music performance, will be taking place on Saturday, 20 June and Sunday, 21 June at Essendon Squash, 7 Carlyle Street, Moonee Ponds. Different performance times are available, with tickets costing from $18.
Attendees will be expected to stand and move between rooms and are advised to dress for warmth and comfort.
