Natural beauty to be celebrated in Essendon

Essendon residents have the chance to show off their photographic skills in a new competition.

The contest, run by the Moonee Valley Council and Essendon Camera Club, is designed to highlight the area’s diversity in plants and wildlife. Photographs can be taken anywhere in Moonee Valley, but must show a local plant or animal.

The competition has three categories. The first is an open category for anyone aged over 18. A secondary category is for young people from 13 to 17-years-old, and the primary category is open to children aged 12 and under. In each category, winners will be chosen for four themes – backyards, parks and reserves, water and waterways, and streetscapes.

Winners will receive Apple iPad minis and the runners-up will receive book vouchers. Printing services will also be used to reproduce the winning images in council publications, meaning everyone across Moonee Valley will see the best pictures.

On Sunday 10th May, the camera club will be running special workshops to help keen photographers improve their skills, including tips on composition and how to get the best from a camera.

The competition coincides with public consultation on the council’s draft urban ecology strategy, designed to enhance the area’s natural environment.

Competition entries and the consultation close on Monday 16th June. For details or to book a place at the workshop, visit the Moonee Valley Council website.
