Moonee Valley residents encouraged to have fun and get fit
Essendon residents who have made a new year’s resolution to get fitter in 2014 can get motivated with the Moonee Valley Leisure Challenge.
The programme is aimed at adults and children of all fitness levels. Activities on offer include golf, dancing, table tennis, and yoga.
Clubs including the Melbourne Heart soccer team and the Melbourne Tigers basketball team will run family sports clinics and Australian Football League players Jason McCartney and Michael Roberts will be holding an event offering tips to increase motivation and stay focused. Entrance to the area’s leisure centres is also free during the challenge.
People can register for the challenge individually, as a family, or as a team. For those wanting to sign up a work team, poster printing could be used to advertise the challenge around a workplace.
Keen athletes can also take part in the Colour Fest Run on Sunday March 16th as part of the challenge. The run includes a 10-kilometre run and a 5km course that can be run or walked. There are also two shorter courses for children. An entry fee is charged for this event and funds raised will be donated to two local charities.
The challenge runs for four weeks between Monday February 24th and Thursday March 27th. Registration for the challenge is open until Friday February 14th. To register, visit the Moonee Valley council website.
