Federal funds for transport may boost Essendon
Government funding for Melbourne Airport’s rail link might spur growth in Essendon.
The federal government has pledged $5bn to make the Melbourne Airport rail link into a viable scheme. Local stationery printers could get more demand when the infrastructure project is completed. Construction is due to start in 2020 and Essendon may benefit in economic terms. Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull informed the Herald Sun:
The state government is likely to make a significant contribution to the project in question. It is thought that the state of Victoria may match the resources committed by the federal government. At the same time, the private sector may come forward with up to $5bn. The hope is that all this spending could promote investment in other transport initiatives within the state.
The design of the link shall have an influence on which places benefit the most, and there should be a connection with the centre of Melbourne. By 2030, more than 50 million passengers should be using the rail link on an annual basis.

“The time for talk is over. There have been countless reviews, reports and recommendations, but Melbourne is still waiting for a service almost all of the world’s great cities take for granted. With our commitment of up to $5 billion... we are guaranteeing the Melbourne airport rail link will be built.”
