The Monee Valley City Council is inviting Essendon residents who have attended community activities at the much-loved Flemington Community Centre to reminisce and share their experiences at the facility on social media channels.
The centre has been utilised by the community for over 60 years, but the building is now deteriorating and the council have decided it is no longer fit to be used for community events and activities.
Over the years, the centre has hosted many classes, events and social activities, and the council wants to capture memories of these times to include in the replacement building – the new Flemington Hub. People are being encouraged to share memories on either Facebook or Instagram using the hashtag #FCCandme.
The centre, which has been closed to the community during the COVID restrictions, will not reopen, and work will begin to remove the building early in the new year. Work will begin on the Flemington Hub in 2021, and it is expected this new facility will be ready for community use in 2023.
Organisers of community events at centres like this will often use both printing services and online alerts to market events.
For anyone interested in keeping updated with the progress of the new Flemington Hub, the Monee Valley Council has set up a Flemington Hub project page on the council website.
