The London Drawing Group is inviting Essendon residents to join an online class – the popular Feminist’s Guide to Botany.
The class takes a look inside the wonderful world of botany and focuses on the history of famous female explorers, artists and scientists. It will draw on the inspiring lives of female botanical adventurers throughout the ages and will give participants an opportunity to immerse themselves in the artworks of women such as Marianne North, Maria Sybilla Merian and Rachel Ruysch, among others.
The workshop will begin with a short lecture, during which participants will be able to produce sketches from their own personal collections of flowers, leaves or plants. Following the lecture, the workshop will focus on the technique of watercolour and will include basic exercises to assist with the creation of botanical paintings.
Currently, all classes with the London Drawing Group are on a “pay what you can” basis to allow those struggling with the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic to remain creative and engaged. A donation of $5 to $8 is encouraged if you are able to support the group.
Artists will often use flyer printing to market upcoming workshops and exhibitions like this.
The Feminist’s Guide to Botany workshop will be held online on Thursday, January 7 from 6.30pm until 8.30pm. For more information or to book a spot on the workshop, see the Eventbrite website.
