Essendon musicians to face off in competition
The popular Battle of the Bands event will take place in Moonee Valley this weekend, with a number of local groups preparing to show the audiences what they’ve got.
The event is organised by The Push, a scheme which runs across Victoria and offers young people safe environments in which to enjoy live music while encouraging them to become involved in making music.
The competition is open to artists from across the state and begins with a series of local heats. The winner of the Moonee Valley section will go through to the Western Metro regional final which will be judged by music industry experts.
All of the regional winners will compete in the grand final, which takes place at the Push Over Festival in March next year.
There are great prizes on offer for the winner, including a recording session, music equipment and an interview in Melbourne music magazine Beat. A professional photo shoot, poster printing and flyer printing are also part of the prize package.
Six groups will take part in this heat and the gig will also feature a headline performance by Sydney-based rock band Battleships.
The first heat takes place on Saturday at the Kellaway Community Centre in Moonee Ponds, running from 4:00pm to 9:00pm. The event is being promoted as suitable for all ages.
Fans from Essendon who want to check out the acts can get tickets for $10 on the door, with the sale starting at 3:30pm.
