Concert series heats up for winter
Residents in Essendon and across the City of Moonee Valley are gearing up for an upcoming concert series.
The event will keep attendees entertained for a period extending three weekends, and it will also include a special series of performances for children. This year, the community is being invited to experience free afternoon performances of classical music presented by the Inventi Ensemble.
The ensemble is considered a specialist for its arrangements of chamber ensemble orchestral works on a large scale. It has received wide acclaim from audiences for its interactive shows for families, outstanding performance techniques and innovative programming. Poster printing campaigns have advertised its performances Australia-wide.
On June 13, the Inventi Ensemble will appear at Essendon's St John's Uniting Church, where it will present Grieg's musical score as it tells stories of Peer Gynt's adventures from Norway and across to Egypt, followed by Morocco. Glynn Davies has arranged the music, which features tunes such as “Arabian Dance” and “Morning Mood”.
The ensemble will then present a workshop on “Scheherazade” by Rimsky-Korsakov and how the story's characters and themes were created by the composer.
On July 2, Glynn Davies has once again arranged Scheherazade's music for a presentation by Inventi Ensemble entitled “1,001 Nights”. The show will be presented at Ascot Vale Library from 7pm. Bookings to each event, for which the capacity is limited, are required, and they can be made on the council's website. A first-come-first-seated arrangement will apply.
