Community spirit to be rewarded in Moonee Valley
Nominations are now open for awards celebrating the power of neighbours coming together in Moonee Valley.
The annual Spirit of Moonee Valley Community awards recognise the contribution made by
residents and organisations across the area.
This year the awards format has changed and accolades will be given in eight categories.
Essendon residents can nominate someone for an award in categories including arts and culture, family, older persons, and sport.
There will also be an award for contribution by a business and a youth award for people aged between 12 and 25 years of age. From the eight group winners, one will be selected as the overall Citizen of the Year.
Moonee Valley Mayor, Councillor Jan Chantry, said the awards were the chance to celebrate everyday heroes who went out of their way to help the community, especially those who did not normally seek recognition.
The winners will be announced at a gala dinner at the Clocktower Centre in October. The chosen recipients will no doubt have plenty of photographs taken on the night and might like to get a professional print company to make high quality prints to keep as a memento.
Nominations are open now and close on Friday August 8th. Nominations can be made online via the council website, or on the paper forms, which can be found at libraries, community centres and the Civic Centre.
