Book lovers, history enthusiasts, and artists will all find something of interest at Melbourne’s Rare Book Week being held this month.
This is the inaugural Rare Book Week in the city and will give local residents, like those in Essendon, an insight into Books and publications that were printed before the modern techniques used by printing companies today were developed.
The event features a number of talks on such subjects as early crime Books, the history of the book, and how Books and documents donated by ordinary people can now give us an extraordinary vision into history.
Rare book lovers can add to their collection at the fair, which will take place over three days at the University of Melbourne, while for something different artist Nicholas Jones will demonstrate how Books that are beyond repair or have been discarded can be changed into works of art.
Anyone who thinks that they may have a rare publication on their shelves or in their attic can take it along to a special one-day event tomorrow, July 21, at the State Library of Victoria, where experts will assess the quality and potential price of the item and advise on storage and preservation.
Melbourne is a designated UNESCO City of Literature and a special walking tour revealing the city’s printing history, its literary inspiration, and some of the its bookshops will take place daily.
The Melbourne Rare Book Week is on until Sunday, July 29. For more information, visit the Melbourne Rare Book Week website.
