Wetlands exhibition coming to Mill Park

Mill Park Library will be running an exhibition in next month documenting the history of the restoration of Merri Creek from wasteland to wetland since 1999.

The exhibition is organised by the City of Whittlesea and Merri Creek Management Committee and will include photographs and displays of the transformation of the creek from its decline in the 1970s and 1980s, to the flourishing wetland it has become today. This exhibition is open to all and will be of particular interest to those in Mill Park and neighbouring areas, including Epping.

The Merri Creek Management Committee has worked since 1989 to provide environmental sustainability for the Merri Creek Catchment.

The current wetland was created over a number of years by a team of locals in association with the Merri Creek Coordination Committee, who together protested against initial plans to erect a concrete barrier next to the creek. The result was the creation of landscaping and the establishment of parklands, of which the community today is immensely proud. Workers have planted more than 16,000 plants and the community maintains its involvement with the site with balanced agricultural care.

The exhibition will likely include full colour printing and poster printing as well as the use of Brochures. It will be held at the Mill Park Library from Monday, July 4 to Sunday, July 17.
