Organised by the City of Whittlesea local government, residents in the Epping area can enjoy the first tree-planting session in the locality to support biodiversity and foster a healthy connection with nature.
At the event, attendees will gather at the Galada Community Centre to meet and walk half a kilometre to the Tiny Forest site in the Edgars Creek Central Reserve. Shrubs to be planted might include Prickly Moses, the tree violet and the native fuchsia.
Those in attendance will be planting indigenous shrubs to help attract insects and small birds. It is hoped that this communal effort can make a big difference in what is in effect a relatively small space.
Afterwards, attendees will return to the community centre, where the local Khalsa Phulwari Sikhi Group will be providing a celebratory lunch as a reward for efforts.
Labelling to describe plants in the ground can sometimes be produced by local printing services.
Epping Tiny Forest Planting is taking place on Saturday, 26 September, from 10 am until midday. The venue is the Galada Community Centre, 10A Forum Way, Epping. It is free to attend, although those wishing to join should book a place up front. Participants should wear suitable footwear and bring gloves. All tools will be provided. Children attending are the responsibility of a parent or guardian.
