Young people aged eight to thirteen in the Epping area can attend a workshop that introduces them to robotics and coding.
Working together as a pair, either with a parent or carer, the youngsters will use a block-based programming language to instruct their robot. Additional STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Maths) problem-solving skills will be required to overcome challenges, and the teams will be expected to draw on innovation and creativity as well. The teams will be making use of iPads to help their mBot robots move and respond to commands and the environment. Maybe they could instruct the robot to dance, or move and change direction like a vehicle?
It is hoped that the session will unlock curiosity and maybe get the participants enthused about STEM subjects throughout their education and potentially looking to future careers in the sector.

Museums Victoria Robotics and Coding Workshop – Epping is taking place on Tuesday 7th July, from 2pm until 3.15pm. The location is the Greenbrook Community House, 40 McFarlane Crescent, Epping 3076. It is free to attend but it is necessary to register for a place beforehand as there are limited places. A parent or carer should accompany a young person; it is not suitable for those under eight.
