Lovers of literature will be in their element next month when the Melbourne Writers’ Festival kicks off with a special talk by British actor and author Simon Callow.
Callow will discuss the life and work of Charles Dickens, a writer whose work has been reproduced by printing companies many times. Callow, who has recently completed a biography of Dickens, will read from some of the great author’s novels as part of the keynote talk.
Other events include a schools' programme, a panel discussion with staff from the New Yorker magazine and a series of public discussions with members of the media industry. A number of free events for adults and children will be held during the festival, which runs from Thursday, August 23 to Sunday, September 2.
