Pens at the ready for writers festival

Lovers of literature will be in their element next month when the Melbourne Writers’ Festival kicks off with a special talk by British actor and author Simon Callow.

Callow will discuss the life and work of Charles Dickens, a writer whose work has been reproduced by printing companies many times. Callow, who has recently completed a biography of Dickens, will read from some of the great author’s novels as part of the keynote talk.

Other events include a schools' programme, a panel discussion with staff from the New Yorker magazine and a series of public discussions with members of the media industry. Epping business owners may be interested in the two businesses lunches, which include talks by influential business writers and commentators.

A number of free events for adults and children will be held during the festival, which runs from Thursday, August 23 to Sunday, September 2. Festival-goers will be able to buy works by participating authors at the festival bookshop and budding writers can take part in workshops aimed at both beginning writers and authors who are more experienced.

Anyone inspired by the festival to publish their own work, whether it is a novel, a memoir, or even a collection of journal entries, should consider approaching a local Print company to publish their work for them. These companies can Print and bind your work professionally, providing you with a lasting copy of your story.

Tickets for the Melbourne Writers Festival go on sale on Friday, July 20. For tickets, or more information about the festival, go to the Melbourne Writers’ Festival website.
