Community Sport Minister Ros Spence said the new courts will benefit many children, as well as assisting in building memberships at sporting bodies such as the Northern Football Netball League and the Darebin Netball Association. She added:
"We want to encourage more kids and families back to local sport – these new facilities will help local teams and leagues reach their full potential.”
The new upgraded facilities, which were made possible due to the Inner City Netball Programme, include lighting and two new courts built to competition standard. Such innovations will allow the area's local teams to hold netball competitions and training night and day, along with development programmes like the juniors NetSetGo. Social play will also be available for students and others in the local area.
Activities at sporting venues such as this are often widely advertised locally via flyer printing campaigns.
The government's Netball Programme has seen Darebin receive 23 of an overall total of 64 courts that have been upgraded or constructed.
Spence said that as well as helping the local netball associations and clubs and encouraging children to become more active, the investment in local sports was also stimulating economies, creating jobs, helping community's recover quicker from the effects of COVID-19 and improving the wellbeing, social outcomes and health of communities across Victoria.
