Half a million attend NY bash

Melbourne saw over half a million people attend this year's New Year fireworks display in the city, with fans from Epping and towns across the area being attracted by radio advertising, Posters and Banners from Print companies in the region.

The 2013/14 celebrations saw a total of four viewing areas set up.

The new site, located at Kings Domain, was added to the previous years' list of Docklands, Treasury Garden and Flagstaff Gardens.

Each of the sites had its own food and entertainment, with the crowds being entertained from 9pm. The entertainment went on until the close of the celebrations, at around 1am, with DJs playing typical mixes to keep the party going.

With a multimedia show and a one to 100 countdown to midnight, every site had a fantastic atmosphere.

Poster printing advertised free public transport being put on, and a number of stations staying open through the night, allowing the revellers to party until well into the young hours of the New Year.

Three million dollars was spent on the event, and about seven and a half tonnes of fireworks lit up the sky. Launched from 22 firing sites throughout Melbourne, $341,000 went up in smoke on the big night.

Talking ahead of the show, the Lord Mayor of Melbourne, Robert Doyle, said:

"It will create a whole carpet of wonderful fireworks to bring in the New Year."

As well as the main show, there was also two family fireworks events at Yarra Park and Footscray Park, ensuring the whole family could ring in 2014.
