Epping welcomes Australian first in recycling

The first demolition and construction waste washing plant in Australia is set to open in Epping, Victoria in 2018.

Resource recovery sector stalwart Repurpose It, based in Epping, will own and operate the plant which will wash and separate waste materials like rail ballast and glass for reuse.

Work to construct the $6 million plant is well underway with completion expected in mid-2018.

The new undertaking is expected to create an estimated 30 new jobs.

Chief executive of Repurpose It, George Hatzimanolis, said the plant will add to the employment opportunities in the area by providing work for up to 30 full-time staff, boosting the company’s employees, which include contractors, to near 100. He added:

“We’ve got the support of Whittlesea Council because of the growth and opportunity we are bringing to the community.

“We are also pleased to be recognised for our innovative approach to solving waste problems.”

The company’s work has also been recognised by the State Government which has contributed $500,000 to assist in the establishment of the innovative undertaking in Epping.

Repurpose It has also been applauded by local MP Bronwyn Halfpenny who acknowledged the home-grown company’s initiative and expertise in the field.

General recycling is often promoted extensively via Signs and poster printing, but there are also more specialist Forms of recycling. Halfpenny said Repurpose It has invested in new technology and innovation to treat these most difficult of waste products, such as disused timber and steel.
